Books For Change USA Classroom Library - Mini Grant Application

The mission of Books for Change USA is to provide access to quality books both locally and globally. Books for Change USA will support book distribution programs and other educational initiatives, especially in communities with high poverty and low literacy rates.   Books for Change USA will work to create and empower a global community of readers one book and one child at a time.

The purpose of this grant is to increase the diversity and quality of books in elementary classroom libraries.   Classroom libraries play a key role in providing access to books and promoting literacy. They have the potential to increase student motivation, engagement, and achievement, and they help students become critical thinkers, analytical readers, and informed citizens.  Books For Change USA believes that classroom libraries should 1) offer a wide range of books that appeal to and support the needs of students with different interests and abilities; 2) provide access to books that reflect diverse cultures, perspectives, and social identities; and 3) open up opportunities for student choice and enjoyment of reading authentic texts.

This grant will provide a K-5 classroom teacher who is in their first through third year of teaching with $500.00 to be used for the purchase of books and materials for classroom libraries.  Teachers will be required to submit a brief report and reflection outlining how the funds were used and how the books impacted the students in the classroom. The application window is from July 1, 2024-July 31, 2024. The grants will be awarded on August 14, 2024.
